Our commitment to privacy
Privacy is important to Campaign Surge. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information, including the personal information of supporters and donors we handle on behalf of our clients, and the personal information of our own employees and contractors.
In this policy, personal information means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.
The personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us or with a campaign we manage, we may collect:
- name, email address, postal address and phone number
- donation and transaction history
- information about how you engage with campaigns, petitions and communications
- any information you choose to provide when you contact us or sign up to a campaign.
How we collect personal information
We collect personal information in several ways, including:
- directly from you when you sign a petition, complete a form, make a donation or subscribe to updates
- through campaigns, websites and advertising we run on behalf of our clients
- from our clients, where they engage us to provide services that involve their supporter or donor data
- directly from you when you contact us or engage us as a client.
Where practicable, we collect personal information directly from the individual concerned.
Why we collect, use and disclose personal information
We collect and use personal information to:
- provide supporter acquisition, content, fundraising and campaign services to our clients
- deliver and improve campaigns, communications and fundraising appeals
- respond to enquiries and provide updates about relevant products, services and campaigns
- manage our relationships with clients, employees and contractors.
We do not use or disclose personal information for a purpose unrelated to the services we provide, and that you would not reasonably expect, unless you have consented or we are required or permitted by law.
We may disclose personal information to:
- our clients, where the information was collected in the course of providing services to that client
- service providers and contractors who assist us in delivering our services
- others where you have consented, or where disclosure is required or authorised by law.
We owe a duty of confidentiality to our clients. That duty applies except where disclosure is consented to by the client or is compelled by law.
Direct marketing and fundraising
Some of our services involve sending campaign communications and fundraising appeals, which may include direct marketing. Every such communication will include a way to opt out, and we will act on any opt-out request promptly. You can also contact us at any time to ask that we stop sending you these communications.
Disclosure of information overseas
We engage service providers located outside Australia, including in the Philippines, who may have access to personal information in order to help us deliver our services. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles that information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Security of personal information
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. This includes limiting access to personal information to people who need it to do their work, and reviewing our security practices from time to time. When personal information is no longer needed and we are not required by law to keep it, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
Data breaches
We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals, we will notify those individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. We will respond to your request within a reasonable time. There are some circumstances where we may not be able to give access, in which case we will explain why.

If you have a concern or complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us using the details below. We will consider your complaint promptly and do our best to resolve it.
